Their abilities look too much like "Magic". One of the universal rules of artistic design for Psychic abilites is to make sure that it doesn't look like magic.

so there i was, just having passed the barricade, and all the sudden stamina bar gets big drops to zilch and i'm dead. Is that some sort of preview feature?

Just leave a bunch of tanks waiting at the other side of the filed and farm till you can get choppers using the stop button.
